However, they have often been performed with incorrect or incomplete technique.

What is Pilates?

Where did Pilates come from?

Joseph H. Pilates (1881-1967) developed an exercise system that he called ‘Contrology’ now known today as Pilates. Joseph started in physical activity at an early age as he was determined to strengthen his body and improve his health after a sickly childhood.

Joseph Pilates explored many genres of physical activity including Yoga, Gymnastics, Zen meditation and Martial Arts. His ‘method’ involved from his understanding of these genres and techniques. Joseph developed unique sequences of movements using both mat exercises and specially designed equipment and following several variations of Pilates Principles;
